Junior Hockey
School year 1-8
Open to players of all abilities, with mixed teams up to the premier grade. Our teams take part in the Auckland Hockey Junior Competition, competing against other clubs and schools on Saturday mornings from May to September.
Premier teams are selected through trials, while other players are placed by ability and age.

Kwik Sticks
Year 7 & 8
There are various grades, Development, Experienced and Advanced in Kwik Sticks.
In the Advanced Grade, our Premier teams consist of one team for boys and one team for girls, playing 11 a-side from Week 1.
We also field a mixed, Premier Reserve team, in the Experienced Grade where players are often afforded the opportunity to play up into the Premier teams.
Development and Experienced Grades play 6-aside, half field format for the first 4 weeks before moving to the 11 a-side format on a full field.
The matches are broken into 25 minute halves with a 5 minute half time. The standard rules of hockey apply.
There is also an option for a Beginner 6 a-side division, similar to Kiwi Sticks for players new to hockey.
Game start times are between 9.40-11.40am on Saturday morning.

Kiwi Sticks
Year 5 & 6
There are various grades from Beginner to Advanced in Kiwi Sticks. They play a 6 a-side format with 20 minute halves on 1/2 a turf. Our Kiwi Sticks teams are all mixed teams. We field one Premier and one Premier Reserve team in the Advanced Grades, with other teams being graded depending on overall team ability.
Game start times are normally between 8am and 9:40am on Saturday mornings

Mini Sticks
Year 3 & 4
There are various grades from Development to Advanced in Mini Sticks. They play a 6 a-side format of with 20 minute halves against other clubs on a 1/4 of a turf.
They play with a modified ball (light balls)
Game start times are normally at 8am or 8.50am on Saturday mornings.

Fun Sticks
Year 1 & 2
This is a hands-on hockey programme designed for children 5-6 years who are new to hockey where children learn the basic skills of hockey in a fun and interactive environment.
The programme is run on Saturday mornings at the Macleans College Hockey turf, between 8:30 and 9:30am.

Yes, we place players in teams with similar abilities according to school years.

Yes, teams are mixed, up to the premier grade.
The year 5&6 level, premier grade consists of 2 teams for boys and 2 teams for girls.
At year 7&8 level, the premier team may be mixed depending on player numbers, otherwise it is the same as year 5&6.
To be considered for a premier team, children will need to have played hockey before at a high level and will need to attend trials.

If you wish to be considered for one of the premier teams, then yes you will need to attend trials. Otherwise it is not necessary to attend.
All other players will automatically be placed in teams depending on playing history, ability and age. -
Mouthguard, shin pads, hockey stick, navy shorts/skirts/skorts and HPHC socks.

Games are played at varying times on Saturday mornings at turfs across the Auckland region. We would suggest that you download the Auckland Hockey App as it has all the game draws each week.

At this stage we can’t confirm practise day as depends on turf times and coaches.
